Just to give this a try - I have copied the post that "topdollarpage" made to the Yahoo forum today:

A 3d parametric free, opensource CAD program has been my holy grail for a totally free workstation. So far I've found http://brlcad.org/ (most prmoising 3D modeller), http://www.artifice.com/cgi-bin/clk?/dw/dwtech.html , http://www.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Inkscape , http://www.octree.de/ , http://www.cycas.de/ ,

For 3D animation with NURBS modelling, Blender is very well established, http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Home.2.0.html

I haven't found anything comparable to Soliworks or Pro-E.

Thanks topdollarpage - and you are welcome to join the wiki! - Sola Roof Guy

I have added a few pages:

http://solaroof.org/wiki/DesignIn3D/DesignIn2D

the brief:

http://solaroof.org/wiki/DesignIn3D/CAD

and

http://solaroof.org/wiki/DesignIn3D/JFDraw

I also added JF Draw to Cad Packages.

Rick,

I was trying to avoid having references that didn't work. There are several places where wikiwords have the question mark after them that indicates they are not defined. Yet they are defined another place.

That happens because the page exists in another group but not in the this one - so if I say Page Name ("GroupName/PageName) I get a link but if I just use Page Name? I get an edit link (?) to form that page in this group. So people forget to use the complete GroupName/PageName format. My personal wiki is Sola Roof Guy and this is a link across all groups that takes you to SolaRoofGuy/SolaRoofGuy but you only need to write SolaRoofGuy to make the link. So, I can link from here to Eco Sphere very simply but if I want to link to Eco Sphere Project? (Ecosphere/EcoSphereProject) then I need the whole name. - Rick
Sorry to be dense, but I still don't get it. When I read your last paragraph (right above), I see Eco Sphere Project? with a question mark. That is what I was trying to avoid. How do I get rid of the question mark? - Bobby

Is there a better way to accomplish this? Is there a way to make the complete reference not appear on the normal page?

Bobby

Later, I found the "Prevent Formatting" tip in the beige instruction area. Put a bracket and an egual symbol in front of the text you don't want used as a hot spot and an egual symbol and a bracket after the word.

Even later, I found the secret to the disappearing Eco Sphere Project - one has to spell Eco Sphere perfectly including camel capitilization, then they can get Eco Sphere Project to look nice. - Bobby

Calendar:

  • 27.06.2005: More success with Q Cad. I figured out some ways to make things work, so I made a new template and a new test drawing. It still has too many errors, but is much improved. In Files, it is in the Bubble House folder as TmpTst02.dxf
  • 26.06.2005: Limited success in Q Cad. This evening, I was able to produce my first recognizable drawing in Q Cad. Even though it was a very simple drawing, many errors remain. But at least, it kind of looks like a drawing. I will post to Files on the Discussion board. - Bobby
  • 20.06.2005: QCad has proven as hard to get started with as Rick reported Autocad is. I have found "Autocad LT 2005 for Dummies" at a local library. It takes too long to get results. I was able to get results the first night with JFDraw. The book is probably OK if you are being paid to learn Autocad. I have another book requested at the library. I hope it will start faster.
  • 06.06.2005: (My bad. I misinterpreted the calendar and put this on the wrong date. Sorry - Bobby)
  • 05.06.2005: At left.
